Graffiti is a massive problem all around our city. It's a problem that cities around the world agree has to be given prompt attention before it gets out of hand. It is also important to send home a clear message to the creator that their art is not welcome everywhere.
You might have noticed that the graffiti in our suburb has started vanishing off many fences, power poles and telecommunications boxes. Over the past month we have raised over 60 Requests For Service with the CCC to have the graffiti removed. Graffiti is a small crime. Stamp out small problems (fires, crimes) and they never get a chance to grow in to large ones. Unchecked, graffiti makes our suburb look like an urban slum. Riccarton is one of the most vibrant suburbs in the world, there is not reason for us to look like a slum at the same time. You can help us stamp out this crime by raising a Requests For Service with the CCC as soon as you see it show up. Graffiti is a crime. It's called 'Will full damage'. Every crime should be reported to the Police. You can fill out a police report by downloading this form and faxing it to the Hornby Police on 349 1146. Crime is also a problem in our area. If we don't report it then the Police can't help us reduce it. It is critical as a community that we do our part! Just How Much is To Much? We will let you be the judge. Over the past three months we have taken thousands of photos of our suburb and put them all on a web site so that we can analysis the problem and ensure that we have accurate information to back up our claims that Graffiti is a massive problem that is costing our city to much money. As an association, we regard that there are far to many photos of graffiti in these web sites to claim that our suburb is an example of a Clean and Green New Zealand.Graffiti is a crime. Report it! Over the last 3 months is has cost residents thousands of dollars in rates and higher power charges to have it removed. |
