CIA - Community Internet Access

18 March 2007

Opening Soon

Free Internet access for the Riccarton community, you to use.

Over the past few weeks you may have noticed people on the roof putting in cables, or washing bits of old computers in the kitchen or even heard the radio going while the Linux Geeks from CLUG configure machines in the old mayor’s office.

The Central Riccarton Residents’ Association (CRRA) has teamed up with Think Community Networks (TCN), Canterbury Linux Users Group (CLUG) and the Christchurch City Council to bring the community in Riccarton a new resource.

The free resource will be open to the public, for its initial 6 month trial, some time in April 2007.

The centre will run second hand computers donated by local Linux hobbyists.

Linux is a completely free, “Open Source” operating system that is created by communities around the world for use by the global community.

For more information contact Don Gould, Chairman CRRA, Ph 348 7235
